Planning Your Video
About Photos
Print photographs to be scanned must be:
  • Removed from frames and/or photo albums
  • Securely stacked in the order in which you wish them to appear in the video, preferably placed
inside a Ziplock bag.  Number each photo in the order you would like it to appear by placing
numbered Post it notes on the back of each picture or write the number with a pencil.   Please note
that you should not write with pen directly on photos as ink will eventually bleed through, and sticky
notes on the front of your photos may leave a sticky residue.
  • As necessary sections can be denoted by placing stacks for each section in envelopes or Ziplock
bags that are then labeled with the section order
  • Notes regarding special retouching requests (ex. fix a blemish, crop out a person) or captioning
requests should be indicated on a Post It note attached to the back of the photo

Digital photo files must be:
  • Provided on either a CD or a USB flash drive -- JPEG (.jpg) files are preferred
  • Image quality is best at a minimum of 300 dpi
  • Files need to be sequentially named with a simple three-digit number (001, 002, 003 and so on) in
the order   in which you wish them to appear in the video.  If you have photos on a CDs from a
photo lab and you’d like us to pull selected photos off  those CDs, it will require some extra time for
us to find, sort and transfer the digital files, so we’ll charge an extra $5 per CD on orders with
digital photos that have not already been sorted and organized as described.

Please note that photos by professional photographers are copyrighted by the photographer. You need
to contact the photographer and request permission to include their photos in your video.

About Music
Having the right music with the right photos is what makes a video great, and we can help by editing songs and
varying the length of time your photos are shown. But we do need you to do a little rough estimating when putting
together the materials for your video so that we have the "right amount" of music to go with your photos.   If you
request help with selecting music we’re glad to make suggestions; but ultimately the selected music is chosen by
you.  We typically use a display time of about 6-10 seconds per photo, and suggest that you allow roughly 25-35
photos per song.

Here is an example of a well planned video program:.
Inclusion of copyrighted music is covered under your fair use rights of ownership. If you own the CD, downloaded a
song from a legal internet music service, or we download the song on your behalf, using the song in a video for
your personal use is fine.  See our
Music Ideas page for a list of potential songs if you need help choosing music.
Titles
We design your opening and closing screens with any text and design style you choose.  If you have
quotes or wording you’d like to include in the video, just note where (between which photos) you’d like it
to appear.
